STRATEGIC ADVISOR
ROLE

Strategic Advisor, Office of the Chairman is an analytical thinker who can work handily with executives, as well as a detail-oriented self-starter who can translate and operationalize that vision. They will oversee a range of cross-cutting strategic initiatives and engage in detailed research, high quality thought partnership and flawless execution management to accelerate and increase the impact of Board initiatives. The Strategic Advisor will play a critical role in our fast-paced environment that requires thoughtfulness, drive, maturity and enthusiasm for the challenge at hand.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a thought leader and provide close partnership to the Chairman and Board of Directors:
  • Drive learning and facilitate conversations to help the Board identify and explore emerging strategic priorities, prioritizing researching and learning from existing philanthropic efforts
  • Support Board to ensure on-time and effective completion of strategic planning, decision-making, projects and initiatives of the Board, including managing key communications and relationships
  • Design and execute Board initiatives: Using guidance provided and strategic priorities laid out, lead Board-driven partnerships and grants from ideation through successful implementation
  • Drive best-in-class partner management: Ensure grantees and other partner organizations are executing on plan and help to surface both opportunities and issues as they arise
  • Build out processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness: Develop and maintain systems and processes to guide planning, decision-making, and implementation of Board initiatives
  • Establish oneself as a forward-thinking philanthropic leader: Keep a strong pulse on peer philanthropy activity and trends to help inform strategy, decision-making, and relationship building for the Board

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of experience, has worked closely with executives; 5+ years of operational experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical thinking and synthesis skills; can demonstrate clear, accurate thinking
  • Can get up to speed on an issue quickly; is able to make meaningful contributions and recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong understanding of how to tailor communications across a range of varied stakeholders
  • Can engage with, and manage, a range of personalities and stakeholders to effectively move forward Board priorities; includes timely escalation of issues, presenting thoughtful solutions, etc.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; possesses detail-orientation 
  • Takes initiative to solve problems and to achieve results beyond what it expected
  • Maintains a solutions-oriented mindset; assumes full ownership and accountability over workstreams
  • Ability to balance bold ideas with a humble attitude, exhibits patience and a desire to learn more
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and an ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and environments
  • Hands on, take charge, innovative thinker with experience in both for profit and non-profit enterprises
